My Kid Is More Talented Than Your Kid

Now, I don't normally brag about my kids on my blog. Mostly because it isn't funny at all. I mean, come on. "My kid is better than your kid at something and allow me to prove it here! Are you laughing yet?" No. However, I will at this time point out that my child is better than your child at something. No, she can't speak in grammatically correct sentences in our language or any other language, nor is she terribly polite when she's angry ("OK, Your Highness...." Why does my child have to be just. like. me?).

However, one thing she's always excelled at was drawing. This kid can draw some pretty amazing things. She can draw the hell out of any character on SpongeBob, as well she should given the number of episodes she sees in a week (Me: "Oh look, it must be another SpongeBob marithon." Husband: "Isn't every day a SpongeBob marathon?"). But this kid also has creativity coming out of every orafice. No kidding. She has actually come to the point in her artistic progression where she is equal to me (not that that's saying much, but I AM in my 30s remember) in artistic talent. The first picture she ever drew that actually looked exactly like it was supposed to look was of a bunch of balloons. She was two. I was thrilled. And she's excelled at an impressive rate since that time.

She can usually draw more complicated characters than this so that in and of itself was not impressive so much here, but what shocked the Husband and I about the following drawing on her favorite medium, the ProDoodle, was how obvious the intent of her expression was. I mean, it's as plain as day to us. Tell me if it's as obvious to you what this is a picture of:

It's a damn fencing match. A fencing match! It even has a sign. And check out the masks and foils, let alone the stances. Where on earth does she get this stuff anyway?

I ask myself that almost everyday about my eldest. Sad, isnt it ...

That is freaking amazing!! I love the swords crossed in the frame. I didn't notice the arms until you said something. PW truly is talented. I thought Lauren was good with drawing high heals and crowns on her princesses. Yeah right. Your kid is better than mine!

Wow! Don't tell Evelyn I said this, but that is the BEST picture I've ever seen from a child. I was shocked to see the arms in the right position and everything. Has she been watching fencing or something? I think it means that PW either was a wonderful art career in her future--or secretly longs to be a fencer.

She is obviously destined to be a great artiste... to be featured in the Louvre no doubt.

You're absolutely right, R Max. In fact, I'm going to send her magnadoodle in for review this very moment. Thanks for the tip. At the very least let's hope for the Boston Museum of Fine Art, shall we?

As for us watching fencing, we don't. If we were regular fencing watchers I wouldn't at all be surprised if she came up with that. But we're not. I have absolutely no clue when or where she observed such a thing, but she obviously would have had to have seen it somewhere to recreate it, no? Who knows.

Meh. They're just stick figures.

;) No, I'm sure she's very talented.

how old is she? Cuz that looks just like the pictures I am always drawing for my two year old. Except I don't draw fencing matches. I wish I did, because it is awesome, but it has never occurred to me.

What are the little things with the arrows over their heads?

She's five. Yeah, see, that's something I would draw, too, stick figures and everything. This is my point--I can't do better than she can at this point, which is great for her and sad for me.

The things with arrows are pictures of the two contestants without their masks on. She thinks of everything, this one.

Ha ha! What a talented girl. She is musical too, you have to record her singing for us sometime.

I am suitably impressed! Go PW!!! Someday she is going to be drawing caricatures of you in church and showing them to Peanut while they both giggle hysterically.

Fencing for the win.

She's awesome! Just don't have Maddox critique her work.

You know, I was actually thinking about that when I wrote this and wondering how many people would say, "Man, she sucks! I can do way better!" Kinda like B Jones there. And to them I say "Bite me. Get some kids first."

10 days without a blog post!! Withdrawal symptoms!! (Very few of my pals are blogging very regularly. What do they think? That summer is a time for being outside and having fun with others rather than inside and finding love and validation on the computer? Pish posh!!)

Do you happen to have the Wii Sports Resort? Because there is fencing in that, and my kids are ALL over that. If Jackson drew something like that, that's where I'd think it came from! LOL

Nope, we don't have a Wii. I'm still perplexed as to where she's ever seen fencing.
